The Johnson County Longhorn Golf team took to the links twice last week, coming in third in their first match before taking home the honors in the next.
The Horns shot a score of 178 in the first go around, following University High School’s 174 and winner of the day TCCA’s 173. Cameron Crowder led the Longhorns, turning in a round of 42, then came Grayson Holt with a 43 and Hunter Paisley and Ethan Smith with 45 and 48, respectively.
In the second match of the week, Johnson County shot a match-winning score of 184, topping Hampton High School’s 200 and University High’s 215. Crowder was again the first Longhorn in the clubhouse with a score of 43, followed by Holt, Smith, and Kaden Blevins all shooting 47.
Graysburg Hills Golf Course: The Longhorns have seen a few of their scheduled matches rained out this season, and Tuesday, September 12, was no exception.
On Thursday, September 14, the Horns traveled to Graysburg Hills Golf Course in Chuckey, TN to take on West Greene and North Greene High School. Johnson County shot a score of 195, just one stroke back of North Greene’s 194 and seven off of West Greene’s 188.
Longhorns Golf Coach Eric Crabtree said, We got third, but it was a good measuring stick against some other teams in the conference. Grayson Holt’s 47 was the top Longhorn score, then it was Crowder with a 48, Smith with a 49, and Blevins’ 51. With the tournament just around the corner, Coach Crabtree said, “We are still trending in the right direction but really need to lock in to make regionals.”
